An association with Barter began the fall of 2001 with the development of the Barter Conservatory at Emory & Henry College. After attempting to work on the particulars of that agreement, the two sides realized that a different association was more realistic. The new entity now called The New Theatre Program in association with Barter Theatre is designed to better incorporate academic restrictions within a professional training environment. Barter Theatre has agreed to teach workshops and master classes each semester and to provide guest directors for some E&H shows. Barter will also provide talk back sessions with the cast and crew of selected Barter productions for E&H students. E&H students will also be invited for internships and work study opportunities at Barter, be considered for the Barter acting possibilities during the summer, and will be able to attend professional rehearsals of Barter productions. With a new focus, the Theatre Program is looking forward to welcoming 15-20 new students through its doors the fall of 2003 to increase the program from 4 to 30 in two years. back to top
